Azpetrol began its activity with the opening of its first gas station on Tbilisi Avenue in Baku on July 15, 1997. By the end of 1997, the number of gas stations grew to eight. Today, the company operates 71 stations, 66 of which provide petrol and diesel fuel distribution, with another four operating as LPG retail distribution stations.

Azpetrol is a leading company among the companies engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel. The company owns and operates an oil depot with a capacity of 7,000 tons and is equipped with modern electronic equipment, fire safety, signaling and security systems and a fleet of 108 specialized tanker trucks. Tanker trucks continuously provide LPG retail distribution stations and filling stations of the company with gas, diesel and LPG.

In 2002, for the first time, Azpetrol underwent an audit of its financial statements according to the International Business Accounting Standards. At the XVI International Convention of Quality held in New York on July 14, 2002, Azpetrol was awarded the International Quality Summit Award for Excellence and Business Prestige. In August, 2003, Azpetrol obtained an International Certificate on Quality Management System - ISO 9001:2000. In March 2008, Azpetrol was also awarded Caspian Energy Integration Award for Quality Service of the Year and “International Star Award” for Quality in the contest held in Switzerland. The Azpetrol Company was awarded the "Company of the Year" national prize in nomination of "Service Stations Network" for past year’s achievements and the 2010 "Friend of Ecology" national prize.
