Minister of Finance: Turnover between Azerbaijan and United States Makes $1.4 Billion

Azerbaijan and the United States jointly made great efforts in the development of bilateral cooperation.

The United States supports the sovereignty and independence of Azerbaijan over 20 years.

Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar spoke about it at the event dedicated to the Independence Day of the United States.

According to him, the United States will continue to work with Azerbaijan to insure security, progress and democratic development.

"I am very proud that I have been working as a diplomat in Azerbaijan for the past two years", he said, adding that cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov, who conveyed greetings of the President on the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States.

"Azerbaijan attaches a great importance to cooperation with the United States," - he said, expressing satisfaction with the development of cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres.

According to him, cooperation on issues such as energy security of the world, the fight against international terrorism, participation in joint peacekeeping operations had a positive impact on the relationship between the countries as a whole.

The minister noted that last year the turnover between the countries reached 1.4 billion dollars, stressing that U.S. companies are involved in major projects in Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan is working closely with Europe and the United States in the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor, which corresponds our interests," he said.

Sharifov also noted that Azerbaijan supports the establishment of mechanisms for the implementation of the resolutions and decisions of international organizations.

"Azerbaijan has high hopes for the United States as the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group on the issue of an equitable settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of international law," - he added.

He also thanked the U.S. side for not accepting status quo in this issue.
