Romania Intends to Receive Azeri Gas through Bulgaria

This route can be a part of the "Southern Gas Corridor".

Romanian Transgaz interested in receiving gas from Azerbaijan via Bulgaria for its further sales in Europe.

The statement came from the Member of the Management Board of the company Bogdan Iliescu.

Iliescu said that after the construction of gas jumpers Bulgaria-Greece and Bulgaria, Romania, they can transport the natural gas from the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), through which the Azerbaijani gas is transported.

"The gas can reach Romania through Bulgaria, and then - through the Romanian gas jumper - to Hungary and to reach the European market in Austria," he said.

The Romanian company believes that this route can become part of the "Southern Gas Corridor", in which Europe will receive natural gas from the Caspian region.

TAP project is designed to transport natural gas from the Shah Deniz field in the "Stage 2" through Greece and Albania to Western Europe. Capacity of the pipeline is 10 bn cubic meters per year, expandable to 20 bn cubic meters, depending on the demand. Azerbaijani gas supplies to TAP is expected in 2019.
