Baku has New Olympic Stadium

A gemstone of the Azerbaijani sport facilities, Baku Olympics Stadium is ready for exploitation.

The largest stadium in the Caucasus, the construction of which began in December 2012, is located at the lake Boyukshor on the way from Baku airport and is one of the first greatest constructions visitors see when arriving in the capital.

Youth and Sport Ministry reported that the construction of the national stadium was carried out on schedule.

The Baku Stadium with a capacity of up to 68,000 spectators was designed in a fine and modern style.

The construction process went ahead in accordance with the International Building Code, as well as those of UEFA and FIFA.

The facility is expected to take a leading position among the country's sports areas. No wonder, as it will be the main venue and the host of the opening and closing ceremonies of the inaugural European Games this June.

Moreover, the national stadium will be the venue of the UEFA EURO games, as Baku is hosting the quarterfinals and three group games of the EURO 2020.

The stadium includes some multipurpose stands, a running track and other facilities. The six-storey stadium provides special seats for the disabled. It also has some 3,100 parking spaces.

The stadium stretches across 50 hectares with a height of 62 meters. The facility consists of a main and some auxiliary stadiums, an auxiliary building, as well as some sections for VIP and CIP.

The stadium will be surrounded by a boulevard that is now under construction at the lake Boyukshor. A 82,000 square meter green area will be laid out around the facility.

Baku is currently putting the final touches to its grand construction plans ahead of the historic Games.

Through 17 days of competition, over 6,000 sportsmen will represent 50 countries in 20 sports. The games will take place in 21 stadia and facilities in Baku and Mingachevir city.
