Azerbaijan, U.S. Eye ICT Cooperation

Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and High Technologies, Ali Abbasov has met U.S. ambassador to the country Robert Cekuta.

The minister hailed successful development of bilateral relations, as well as reforms carried out in the field of ICT in the country and the regional initiatives.

Touching upon the activity of the American companies in Azerbaijani markets, Abbasov highlighted the cooperation with Cisco Systems, HP, and Microsoft.

Cekuta praised the fact that the ICT sector was declared a priority direction in the future development of the country's economy.

Speaking about Azerbaijan-US cooperation in the satellite industry, the diplomat expressed willingness to organize trainings for Azerbaijani personnel in the US in certain specialties.

He said the US was interested in sharing its ICT experience with Azerbaijan.

The volume of investments made in ICT sphere by enterprises and the structural divisions of the Azerbaijan Communications and High Technologies Ministry stood at 57.2 million manats ($72.8 million) in 2014.

A total of 142 million manats ($180.9 million) was invested in the ICT sphere of the country in 2014.

The revenues volume from the ICT sector and postal service of Azerbaijan increased by over 16 percent in comparison with 2013, and stood at 1.7 billion manats ($2.16 billion) last year.
