U.S. Companies Show Interest in Azerbaijan - Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce

Representatives of nearly 35 U.S. companies visited Azerbaijan during the past three years, Michael Lally, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, told reporters in Baku.

He said nearly 200 meetings were held during these visits: "These meetings yield results. Speaking the plans for 2017, certain programming works are underway. One of these is an event to be held by the United States - Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC) in the U.S. in March. This will contribute to the development of business environment in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has already determined its objectives. These objectives are the development of non-oil sector and diversification. I think certain works should be done to achieve these goals".

He also noted that there is a direct air transport between Azerbaijan and U.S., which is an important step for development of the ties: "There are great opportunities for development of links with Azerbaijan in IT and agriculture. Azerbaijan is cooperating with the U.S. on space. Azerbaijan has its own satellite which operates by using U.S. latest technologies".
