Black Sea Countries to Enhance Cooperation in Transport Sector

The transportation ministers of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation member nations issued a declaration on April 15 to enhance cooperation in the transport sector.

Aleksandar Tsvetkov, Bulgarian transport, information technology and communications minister, said the declaration will encourage development of joint transport projects in the region.

Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, secretary general of the BSEC, said one of the projects is to build a 7,700 km Black Sea Ring highway, facilitating trade and uniting the European road network to the Asian road network.

The ministers also agreed on an integrated regional maritime policy, with the co-development with civil aviation sectors.

The BSEC was founded in 1992, joining Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and Serbia.
