Azerbaijan's Foreign Trade Tops $3.9bn

Azerbaijan had a trade surplus of over $2.5bn in the first two months of 2010, largely due to oil and gas exports.

Azerbaijan's foreign trade in January and February with 105 countries was worth over $3.9 billion, with a trade surplus of $2.5 billion, according to figures from the State Customs Committee published on March 29.

In the reporting period, Azerbaijan exported 795 types of goods worth $3.2bn, a growth of 15.54% compared to January-February 2009. Hydrocarbons accounted for 95% of all exports, the State Customs Committee said.

In the first two months of the year, Azerbaijan imported 3,521 types of goods worth $703m, a fall of $220m or 23.84% on 2009. In 2009 as a whole, Azerbaijan had trade of $20bn with 138 countries. Azerbaijan exported 2,071 types of goods worth $14bn and imported 5,894 types of goods worth $6bn. The country's trade balance was positive, at $8bn.
