Turkish-US Alliance holds presentation about Azerbaijan in Washington

The Turkish-US Alliance has held a presentation about Azerbaijan in Washington.
Attending the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the US Elin Suleymanov spoke about US-Azerbaijani relations and noted the importance of Washington to view those relations from long-term and strategic spectrum.

Speaking about the independence path of Azerbaijan, Suleymanov noted that Azerbaijan’s election as a non-permanent member to the UN Security Council last year was an indication of Azerbaijan’s international influence and ascendency earned through 20 years of independence.

Referring to the country’s economic development and role in the region, the ambassador noted that SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic) was the biggest taxpayer in Georgia and its investment to me made in Turkey would be the biggest one made ever in the private sector of that country.  Noting that today Azerbaijan’s share in the South Caucasus economy makes up 85%, Suleymanov said that economic development of regional partners was important for Azerbaijan and that strategy was formed by national leader Heydar Aliyev.

Referring to Azerbaijani-Georgian cooperation in the region, the envoy stressed that Georgia’s economy developed due to that cooperation and Azerbaijan had a great role in that. Noting that non-constructive position of Yerevan regarding the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict deprived Armenia of the economic development in the region, Suleymanov said that the Armenian government always prevented any progress in the negotiation process, didn’t think about the future of Armenian people, mostly harmed its own nation with its policy and brought bitter results for the development of Armenia.

The ambassador emphasized that the Azerbaijani society was formed on the basis of tolerance and open values, the Azerbaijani state was established on the basis of not ethnic or religious factors, but citizenship and Azerbaijan was a representative of the tradition of democratic political ideas since 1918.
