Baku to Host International Congress ‘Tunneling and Underground Infrastructure in Urban Areas

Azerbaijan will be hosting the International Congress and Exhibition, "Tunneling and Underground Infrastructure in Urban Areas" for the first time on September 10-11.

This event will be organized by the Azerbaijan Tunneling Association (AzTA) under the auspices of the International Tunneling and Underground Space Association (ITA) and in partnership with the French Tunneling and Underground Space Association (AFTES). The organizational partner is Iteca Caspian LLC.

The conference will provide the participants the opportunity to present all new projects of urbanization, including the prospects of tunnels and underground structures in the region. Other topics such as security, new methods of operation and construction, technical innovation in the implementation of the underground structures in urban areas will also be discussed.

Main topics that are closely overlapping with the latest research and the latest creative ideas will be addressed during the congress.

Such topics are:

- Presentation of infrastructure projects: extension of metro, tunnels, highway, and railways in Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan;

- Underground infrastructure as a solution for modern urbanization, including urban tunneling;

- Construction of underground infrastructures in complex geological conditions;

- Latest technical innovations in tunneling;

- Urban tunnels driving: methods and risk control;

- Security and safety in tunnels and in underground structures.

The event will be attended by scientists and experts, as well as representatives of organizations and companies from Azerbaijan, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, United States, Canada, Korea and other countries.

As part of the congress, an exhibition will be held in the immediate vicinity of the conference center. The stands will be used to exhibit models, materials and various types of underground works equipment. It will also be possible to exhibit infrastructure projects, such as extension of metro, tunnel, highway and railways.
