Azerbaijan Takes Part in IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting

The 67th IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting was held in Tokyo earlier this month.

The Finance Ministry of Azerbaijan said that the event, attended by 20,000 people from 188 countries, focused on global economic development, debt crisis in the euro zone, reduction of unemployment and poverty. Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation led by Deputy Finance Minister Azer Bayramov.

During a speech, the Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito thanked the international community for the support received in dealing with the damages caused by natural disasters in Japan. He expressed confidence that the IMF and the World Bank would continue efforts toward global economic development and the maintaining of international financial stability.

The IMF managing director Christine Lagarde, the bank's new president Jim Yong Kim and others spoke about the changes in global economy and future goals.

At the annual meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation held several meetings with IMF and World Bank officials to discuss the current state of bilateral relations.
