Baku to Host First-Ever European Games
Baku will host the first European Games, according to a decision at the 41st General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee in Rome.
By ballot decision, Baku was named as the host for the next European Games, a first in the city's history.
At the assembly, Azerbaijan was represented by Azad Rahimov, Minister of Youth and Sports, Chingiz Huseynzade, VP for Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee (NOC), and Elkhan Mammadov, AFFA General Secretary. Ilham Madatov, director of International Affairs Department for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kenul Nurullayeva, director of the Department of International Relations of NOC, and Farhad Hajiyev, executive director of the Youth Foundation, were also present.
Among the speakers were Patrick Hickey, president of European Olympic Committee (EOC), Andrew Greg, advisor to the EOC President and O'Kalagan Pierce, EOC president's special representative. They all touched upon Baku's extraordinary development and achievements, and its readiness to host the games.
