New Partner May Join TAP Project

European gas infrastructure group Fluxys is considering taking a shareholding in the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project.

According to the TAP report, discussions between Fluxys and TAP's shareholders began in 2012.

These negotiations are proceeding with a view to include Fluxys as a shareholder in TAP shortly after the consortium on Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field development has decided on the preferred European route to bring gas from Azerbaijan, the report said. Fluxys and TAP are confident they will be able to finalise the necessary arrangements for Fluxys to join TAP by August 2013 subject to TAP being selected by the Shah Deniz Consortium.

The TAP project is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region via Greece and Albania and across the Adriatic Sea to the south of Italy and further into Western Europe.

Currently, the Shah Deniz consortium considers two options for its gas transportation to Europe - TAP and Nabucco West. The final decision on the pipeline route will be made at the end of June, 2013.

Fluxys is a major gas transit operator in Europe with activities in six countries and counts among the few operators combining gas transmission, gas storage and terminalling of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
