UN General Assembly Adopts Resolution on Initiative of Azerbaijan

The UN General Assembly held thematic discussions on boosting Eurasian telecommunications transit routes on initiative of Azerbaijan.

President of the 67th session of the General Assembly Vuk Jeremic urged Governments to expand broadband infrastructure in the developing world.

He added that Azerbaijan and its neighbors can integrate into a global information space by acting as a bridge of communication between East and West.

"One-fifth of all households in developing countries are now hooked up to the internet - up from 13 per cent just three years ago," Vuk Jeremic told a panel entitled 'Improving connectivity in Eurasia,' organized by Azerbaijan.

Ahead of the panel discussion, the Assembly held a plenary meeting where it adopted a resolution inviting UN Member States to explore ways to support Azerbaijan's proposal to establish the Eurasian Connectivity Alliance with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
