Azerbaijan’s Biggest Island Turn into 'Pearl'

Boyuk Zira, the biggest island of Baku Archipelago, is going to turn into one of the most interesting parts of the capital, the Architects Union announced in a meeting dedicated to the discussion of the project called "Azerbaijani Pearl".

The country's famous architect Rasim Babakishiyev informed the participants of the main points of the project, saying that island's ground features allow the creation of any kind of infrastructure there.

The traditional elements will also be used in the project and the tourists will have a chance to learn about the culture and history of the country.

The Caravanserai Hotel, which will be built in Azerbaijani national style, will take the tourists to the Middle Ages, Babakishiyev said.

Religious tolerance will also be taken into account on the island, and mosques, churches, and synagogues are going to be built there.

Moreover, the island will be able to host major international events and meetings at the highest level, and a hall with the capacity to seat 3000-3500 people will be built between two large hotels.

Under the project, automobiles running on gasoline will not be allowed on the island. Those who want to explore the island will take ships departing from Azneft and Zig villages.
